Bridging the gap between healthcare and food security - Pivotal Partnership

Increasing Access to Nutritious Food; Improving Patient Outcomes
Lamprey Health Care, Inc. Partners with GATHER

Lamprey Health Care and Gather unite to address social determinants of health head on and in collaboration. It’s an alliance dedicated to tackling food insecurity and improving health outcomes in the community. This collaboration follows closely on the heels of two other pivotal partnerships—first with Genoa Pharmacy and then with the Society of St. Vincent de Paul Exeter—further strengthening Lamprey’s commitment to addressing the social determinants of health.

At a time when Lamprey Health Care is initiating Hunger Vital Signs screenings to assess food insecurity among patients, this partnership with Gather will provide tangible solutions through accessible nutrition and preventive care. The initiative introduces a bi-weekly Gather Mobile Food Market stationed at Lamprey Health Care’s Raymond location, ensuring that individuals and families receive fresh, nourishing food alongside quality healthcare services.

“This partnership is more than just a collaboration—it’s a lifeline,” said Sue Durkin, CEO of Lamprey Health Care. “Access to nutritious food is fundamental to good health. By bringing Gather’s Mobile Food Market to our medical site, we’re bridging the gap between healthcare and food security, ensuring our patients and community members have the resources they need to thrive.”

The launch event took place May 13 at Lamprey Health Care’s Raymond medical site, and the market will be there every two weeks after that for the community and Lamprey Health Care patients.
Anne Hayes, executive director of Gather adds, “When Gus the Bus rolls into Lamprey Health Care, Raymond, it delivers more than fresh food—it brings stability, dignity, and healthy foods needed to achieve and sustain good health. By meeting people where they are, we make wellness more possible and more lasting.”

Both organizations are deeply rooted in a mission to serve and improve the lives of their guests/patients. Gather’s commitment to offering dignified and innovative food security solutions aligns seamlessly with Lamprey’s dedication to high-quality primary medical care for all individuals, regardless of ability to pay. Together, they stand united in their belief that food and healthcare should never be barriers to well-being.
