Valerie’s Gallery to host Meet the Artist event with Kathleen Buchanan

Portsmouth, NH: Valerie's Gallery in Portsmouth, NH will be participating in the city’s upcoming Art ‘Round Town on Friday, August 5 by featuring a special artist reception for Maine collagraph printmaker Kathleen Buchanan. Save the date and bring the family from 5:00 to 8:00 pm. The gallery is located at 117 Market Street in Portsmouth and events are always kid-friendly, and offer light refreshments. Kathleen Buchanan was educated and employed as a biologist prior becoming a full-time printmaker in 1999. She majored in biology at Tufts University and also received a master’s degree in wildlife biology at the University of Alaska. At the same time, she took classes in studio art and printmaking in particular. Her training as a scientist honed her observational skills and has aided in her printmaking. Her family includes two young boys whose eyes help her to also see and discover the natural world in new ways. "We're looking forward to having Kathleen as our featured artist fort his Art 'Round Town event," says Valerie Stainton, owner of Valerie's Gallery. "We’ll have a larger collection of prints to view including some from Kathleen’s recent artist-in-residency program in Ireland. Kathleen will also bring some of her tools and plates to help explain how collagraph prints are made.
