Description
From the very first note, Once draws you in and never lets go. This emotionally captivating musical is the only show to have music that won an Academy Award, a Grammy Award, an Olivier Award and a Tony Award. Winner of seven additional Tony Awards including Best Musical, Once is an unforgettable story that reminds us of the importance of going for our dreams, and the power of music to connect us all.
Guy is a singer and songwriter who spends his days fixing vacuums in the Dublin shop he runs with his father. At night he plays his music in local pubs or on the streets, nursing a broken heart. He is on the verge of giving up music altogether when a Czech immigrant, “Girl,” walks into the bar, hears him play and refuses to let him abandon his guitar. As it turns out, she has a broken vacuum cleaner, Guty repairs it, and she pays him with a song on a piano she plays in a record shop. Over the course of a week, Girl brings Guy to rediscover his love of music.
Together, they scrounge up enough money to record a demo album with a motley crew of bar friends, and their unexpected friendship and collaboration evolves into a complex and powerful love story. Directed by Ben Hart and Brandon James. Once features a powerhouse cast providing their own orchestration, each playing their own instrument live. Featuring all of the magical songs from the critically acclaimed film, including the Oscar-winning “Falling Slowly,” this achingly beautiful, joyously uplifting show strikes an unforgettable chord in audiences and speaks to the power of music to connect us all.
A show like that only comes around Once.
