Description

3S Artspace presents: Loading Dock Concert Series - Carand Burnet Sunday, August 11 Doors: 2:30pm / Show: 3pm All ages Free (suggested donation $12)

Plan to come early and join us for our inaugural Portsmouth Printmaking Expo! --

About Carand Burnet: Carand Burnet (she/her) is the lead guitarist and songwriter of the band Kioea (keo'a?). Her music, a fusion of surf rock, psychedelia, and global influences, has been described as “simultaneously modern and vintage” by J. Swartwood (Aquarium Drunkard).

The upcoming solo performance at 3S Artspace will feature songs by Kioea, an electric sitar set, and instrumentals from Burnet’s project, Angel Lake. Bandcamp recognized Kioea for their EP and album, Stand Tall, which they hand-selected as New & Notable releases. Bandcamp’s Editorial Director notes, “The debut LP from Kioea is dreamy psychedelic surf music that calls back to the ’60s while feeling remarkably contemporary.”

Doyle Dean, host of The Dean’s List on NCPR, notes that “Burnet’s guitar playing owes a little bit to the sound of The Ventures, Dick Dale, and the 90’s Canadian daredevils of the form, Shadowy Men on a Shadowy Planet. But her singular voice owes just as much to that of Sonny Rollins – lost in the madness of a late 1950s session for Riverside. It’s that departure Kioea offers.” Burnet has performed at venues including The Music Hall, The Thing in the Spring Festival, the Center for Maine Contemporary Art, and the WMUR Summer Concert Series. Burnet received a Maine ARP Grant through SPACE Gallery and the National Endowment for the Arts, which supported the making of Kioea’s album Stand Tall. ----

About the Loading Dock Concert Series: The Loading Dock Concert Series at 3S Artspace is back this summer with new regional acts and fan favorites in the lineup! This year, we're giving you the opportunity choose your own 3S adventure: arrive at a time that works for you; hang out outside in the Loading Dock area for the show; grab a summer pils from Liar's Bench; and take some time to explore the Gallery, Lobby Gallery, and Shop at 3S. Plus, we have shows on Saturdays at 7 p.m. for those of you who love the classic magic hour vibes of the Loading Dock.

We also have shows on Sundays at 3 p.m. for family-friendly vibes and for those of you who prefer their live music served up before dinner time. ----

2024 Lineup (check back as new shows get added!): Saturday, July 20 (7pm) Foxglove Saturday, July 27 (7pm) Kong Moon Sunday, July 28 (3pm) Halley Neal Sunday, August 4 (3pm) Wildflower (solo) Sunday, August 11 (3pm) Carand Burnet of Kioea Saturday, August 17 (7pm) Cormac McCarthy ---- - Free (suggested donation $12) // Please know that the more you donate, the more funds are received by the artists— not just 3S.

Thank you for supporting 3S, a 501(c)(3) contemporary arts non-profit and the artists! - General Admission // Seating at tables along the bench is first come, first served. There will be standing room, and you're welcome to BYO lawn chair for the grass. - RSVP // A reservation is not required, but helps us get an idea of number of attendees. Plus, we'll send you a reminder about the show! -

Beverages // Our generous Loading Dock sponsor, Liar's Bench will be on site serving beer and wine. - Rain or shine // In the event of inclement weather, the show will be moved indoors to the Gallery or Performance Space. We'll post a notification on Eventbrite and on Instagram/Facebook in advance.
