What is the Rock-a-Thon? It's an event at the Kittery Lions Club, sponsored jointly by the York Youth Lighthouse Preservation Association (YYLPA) and Friends of Portsmouth Harbor Lighthouses (FPHL). This is an opportunity for area residents of all ages to help preserve one of the most historic buildings in the Seacoast region, Portsmouth Harbor Lighthouse. The 1878 cast-iron lighthouse tower is in dire need of a new paint job, at a cost of $28,500. Teams (up to six people) and individuals will rock in rocking chairs for up to six hours. Team members and individuals taking part in the event will gather pledges beforehand. Participants must bring their own rocking chairs (one per team). There will be refreshments on hand.
