Description
Historic New England presents a gallery walk of Sea to Shore: Sculpture Inspired by the New England Seacoast, on Saturday, June 10 at 10:30 a.m. at Governor John Langdon House, 143 Pleasant Street in Portsmouth. The walk will be led by William Bloomfield, stone sculptor and president of New England Sculptors Association. Learn about the exhibiting artists' creative process, the materials they used, and how sculptures are made as you tour the galleries and gardens of the Langdon House. Following the gallery walk, a drop-in demonstration with artist Jeffrey Cooper will take place from 11:00 a.m. -2:00 p.m. Jeffrey Cooper, an imaginative wood carver and New Hampshire resident, has developed a highly unique artistry that brings the beauty of the natural world into our homes, gardens, and communities. In his demonstration, he will be working on a giraffe among the trees and leaves. He will discuss his inspirations and explain his carving techniques using hand tools. These family-friendly programs are offered in conjunction with Sea to Shore: Sculpture Inspired by the New England Seacoast, a juried exhibition of contemporary sculpture, which opens at Governor John Langdon House in Portsmouth, N.H. on June 2. Admission to the demonstrations is free; admission to the gallery walk and the exhibition is $8 for adults, $7 seniors, $4 students and children. Members of Historic New England and New England Sculptors Association are free. Call 603-436-3205 to register or visit www.historicnewengland.org.
