Hayseed Restaurant at Smuttynose Brewing Co.

We built Hayseed to accompany our new Smuttynose Brewery, to showcase the wide variety of fine beers brewed at Smuttynose & Smuttlabs.
We also wanted to create a comfortable, friendly place for our guests to enjoy companionship, good food and drink, in a fashion that honored Towle Farm’s long history. In addition, we were aware of the changing relationship between food and beer, and we wanted to highlight that, too. Hayseed is the result of all those considerations.
During the three decades since we opened our first brewpub (The Portsmouth Brewery), artisan brewers have radically altered Americans’ understanding of, and taste in beer. We’ve been around since the early days of craft brewing, and we’re proud of the part we played in creating that change. The conversation about beer has transformed, and now something similar is happening with food.
Just as the limited, one-dimensional choice of beers in pre-craft times has evolved into today’s delightfully wide world of beers, the notion of beer-friendly food is rapidly expanding, too, from classic pub fare to whole new realms of flavors and styles: sometimes subtle, sometimes flamboyant, and occasionally entirely unexpected.
At Hayseed, we pour many different kinds of beer, and our food is just as varied. Both are made with love and devotion by the creative people in our brewery and kitchen. While you’re here, we invite you to enjoy familiar flavors, and explore new ones, but most of all, have fun doing it. We’re here to serve. Cheers!
